Nitrous

Nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, is an adjunct procedure used in dentistry to help alleviate anxiety and nervousness. Despite common perception, nitrous gas does not put you to sleep - and does not necessarily make you giggly! Often patients feel more relaxed and can feel “heavy” or “tingly” in their extremities. It is a safe and conservative sedation option for all ages.

If you feel like nitrous would be useful for you or a loved one, either for a regular cleaning or a more complex procedure, you can let us know ahead of time or at the time of your appointment.

The procedure for using nitrous gas is very simple. A fitting will sit over your nose and a combination of oxygen and nitrous gas will flow through the tubings for you to inhale. We slowly turn the nitrous on and slowly turn it off to avoid feeling dizzy. There are also a variety of scents for us to add into the nitrous gas to make the experience more enjoyable!
